Course Overview

The Alfred P. Fishman Symposium will present cutting-edge topics pertinent to various types of pulmonary vascular disease. Major advances in research and understanding of the pathobiology and physiology in different types of pulmonary hypertension have translated into novel treatments for patients and a new way of looking at what constitutes successful treatment. Evolving treatment paradigms require a re-evaluation of clinical trial designs which are focused on patient well-being.

All registrations received after today, April 10, 2025, at 10:30 AM will be treated as walk-ins. Please provide registration confirmation at the desk when you arrive.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Review how recent scientific discoveries in pulmonary hypertension can directly translate to improved patient outcomes
  2. Discuss the different types of pulmonary hypertension and the appropriate treatment for each.
  3. Describe the approach to risk stratification and choice of therapies or referral for lung transplantation
  4. Review the new standard of care in treatment of pulmonary embolism and follow-up
  5. Discuss novel and alternative approaches to studying treatments in patients with pulmonary hypertension

LIVE AND VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS
The Alfred P. Fishman Symposium will be held Friday-Saturday, April 11-12, 2025 by in-person or live-stream (virtual) attendance. The live and virtual presentations will follow the scheduled agenda in real time (EST).

Pre-registration is required to attend. Walk-ins are discouraged. Please be sure to register in advance.

IN-PERSON MEETING LOCATION

IN-PERSON REGISTRATION:
The fees to attend in-person are as follows: $250 for physicians, $350 for Industry attendees, $125 for nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals, $100 for residents, fellows and students, and $50 for Penn Medicine faculty, staff, residents, fellows, and students.

All preregistered in-person attendees will receive access to the symposium, the program handout, continental breakfast, lunch, and breaks. Attendees will be required to sign-in to be marked as attended, receive credit and view the recorded content.

Directions & Parking:
The Arthur H. Rubenstein Auditorium at the
Smilow Center for Translational Research is located on floor 1 of the Perelman Center for Academic Medicine, 3400 Civic Center Blvd. Philadelphia, PA.

We strongly recommend you use GPS for exact directions to and from your starting point. Public transportation to and from campus is available. Please visit http://www.upenn.edu/services/transportation for options.

Monday-Friday parking is available at 3600 Civic Center Parking Garage. Parking is $20 per day. This garage provides shuttle service to the Smilow Center. On Saturday, parking is available at the Penn Museum Parking Garage, 3220 South Street, Philadelphia, PA. Cost per day for this garage is $22. Parking fees will not be validated or reimbursed. Both parking garages are within a 1-2 block walk to the Smilow Center.

TO ATTEND BY LIVE-STREAM (VIRTUAL):
Attendees who are registered to attend virtually will receive an email that includes a link to join the symposium 48 hours in advance. All virtual attendees will be required to sign into the meeting using your first name, last name and email address in order to be marked as attended and receive credit, if applicable.

LIVE-STREAM (VIRTUAL) REGISTRATION:
The fees to attend virtually are as follows: $300 for physicians, $400 for Industry attendees, $175 for nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals, $150 for residents, fellows and students, and $100 for Penn Medicine faculty, staff, residents, fellows, and students.

Attendees registered to attend virtually will receive an email that includes the link to join the symposium and the electronic program handout within 48 hours of the symposium. Virtual attendees will be required to sign onto the Live Stream broadcast using their first name, last name and email address to be marked as attended, receive credit and view the recorded content.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.  

Designation of Credit
Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 11.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 11.25 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Nurses: This program provides 11.25 NCPD hours.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 11.25 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.
