Course Overview

The conference materials have been printed and shipped onsite. All registrations after April 4th at 9:30 am will be considered as walk-ins.

This course is designed to update physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals practicing clinical gastroenterology and hepatology about new approaches to the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Faculty will present data on multiple clinically important topics including general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal neoplasia, esophageal diseases, motility, nutrition, pancreaticobiliary disorders, endoscopy, and hepatology. Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of the latest available research and clinical information on evaluation and management of patients with IBD, the latest update on nutrition with a focus on obesity, an update on endoscopy with a focus on upper EUS update, current and future role of ESD and the role of artificial intelligence in GI. Live cases will be used to highlight management strategies. Hepatology will focus on many clinically important topics including NASH, cirrhosis, and its complications such as hepatorenal syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, liver cancer and nonmalignant liver mass management. Esophageal diseases such as eosinophilic esophagitis, GERD management and Barrett’s esophagus management will be highlighted. Finally, constipation, bloating, gastroparesis management and the GI practitioner’s role in the management of obesity will be reviewed.

This activity is designed for gastroenterologists, hepatologists, colorectal surgeons, GI radiologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, residents, fellows, students, and other interested healthcare professionals.

  2. Discuss Clostridioides Difficile management in IBD patients and non IBD patients with IBD
  3. Describe current practices in obesity management for the gastroenterology caregiver
  4. Summarize the current and future role of endoscopic submucosal dissection in the United States
  5. Discuss updates in ascites and hepatorenal syndrome.
  6. Review novel and future therapeutics for IBD
  7. Review updates in the role of artificial intelligence in colonoscopy
  8. Review current management strategies for the hospitalized patient with severe ulcerative colitis.
  9. Highlight new pharmaceutical options for patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
  10. Define a care pathway for patients with Barrett’s esophagus.
  11. Discuss updates in treatment protocols for patients with NASH.
  12. Summarize treatment options for patients diagnosed with gastroparesis.
  13. Define options for intervention in patients with refractory acid reflux disease.
  14. Summarize current management strategies for Hepatic encephalopathy.
  15. Highlight updates in liver cancer.

Registration
LIVE AND VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS
The University of Pennsylvania Comprehensive Gastroenterology and Hepatology Course will be held Friday-Saturday, April 5-6, 2024 by in-person or live-stream (virtual) attendance. The live and virtual presentations will follow the scheduled agenda in real time (EDT).

Live Cases: There will be a full morning of Live Case Transmission from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and Main OR. This will be web-based transmission with 2-way communication for active engagement with moderators and audience (in person and virtual).

The live case transmission will be used to demonstrate common and uncommon endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The cases discussed will include diagnostic and therapeutic EGD, colonoscopy, enteroscopy, ERCP and EUS.
