Course Overview

Hypertension remains the leading cause of cardiovascular death in the United States yet a large percentage of patients with hypertension cannot achieve control of their disease. Several contemporary sham-controlled randomized studies have shown that a novel invasive therapy called renal denervation can lower blood pressures over medications alone. This unique symposium explores cutting edge comprehensive hypertension care highlighting the role of renal denervation in the armamentarium of options to treat resistant hypertension.

Target Audience
Specialties - FAMILY MEDICINE, FAMILY MEDICINE - Geriatric Medicine, INTERNAL MEDICINE, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Geriatric Medicine, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Interventional Cardiology, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Nephrology
Professions - Physicians, Registered Nurses

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify common causes of secondary hypertension
  2. Describe renal denervation's role in modern day management of hypertension
  3. Describe the workup for resistant hypertension
  4. Review results of contemporary renal denervation trials
  5. Discuss inclusion and exclusion criteria for renal denervation trials
  6. Apply into practice the renal denervation procedure
  7. Discuss the various roles of the hypertension team
