Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Defend the rationale for the selection of different therapies based on currently available up to date evidence based data and individual patient profiles
  2. Discuss current diagnostic and therapeutic options for common illnesses and injuries seen in primary care practice.
  3. Apply latest evidence-based guidelines for disease screening and prevention.
  4. Apply latest guidelines for up to date chronic disease management.
  5. Explain the use/misuse of medicine, including but not limited to antibiotics and psychotropics.
  6. Identify social determinants of health regarding disparate communities.
  7. Identify opportunities to address health care disparities through primary care.
  8. Apply the concept of shared decision making discussions with our patients before automatically initiating treatments, therapies, especially regarding primary care prevention strategies.
  9. Use evidence based approaches when dealing with provider self-help, health and well being.
  10. Explain important and relevant clinical issues in cardiovascular disease prevention, screening and management.
  11. Practice keeping current with the pertinent evidence-based medical literature.
  12. Summarize the latest data on upstream risk factors for atrial fibrillation and its extreme relevance to primary care practice.
