Course Overview
The Anesthesiology and Critical Grand Rounds consists of a weekly lecture series featuring speakers from a variety of academic institutions as well as Penn that covers a range of topics germane to the field of anesthesiology. The goal of this series is to improve the participants’ medical knowledge in the realms of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative anesthetic care, review and integrate evidence-based advances in the field of anesthesiology and its subspecialties, and provide attendees a forum for the discussion of current clinical and basic science research with recognized leaders in the field.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Describe how to provide patients with the best possible perioperative and critical care.
  2. Discuss new and ongoing clinical research in the fields of anesthesiology, critical care, and pain medicine, and review basic science
  3. Review the impact of health care policies, health system performance, and the changing landscape of healthcare in the US on anesthesiology and its related subspecialties.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.  

Designation of Credit
Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 1.00 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Nurses: This program provides 1.00 NCPD Hours.

ABS MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn 1.00 credits toward the CME and Self-Assessment requirements of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.
