The Older Adult with Cancer: Personalizing Treatment Decisions is a hybrid educational conference designed for patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and researchers focused on improving cancer care for older adults. Through expert-led presentations, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, participants will explore individualized treatment approaches across multiple cancer types, including curative and metastatic disease, hematologic malignancies, and emerging therapies.

This conference is for healthcare providers, researchers, patients, and families focused on cancer care for older adults. It is designed for oncologists, geriatricians, primary care physicians, nurses, social workers, navigators, dietitians, therapists, bioethicists, and researchers designing clinical trials. Additionally, patients and their caregivers, family members, advocates and members of the public who may benefit from understanding current innovative approaches to older adults with cancer are invited.

Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Review the challenges in management of older adults' lung, bladder, prostate and breast cancer in the adjuvant setting. 
  2. Explain the challenges in the management of older adults with metastatic prostate and breast cancer. 
  3. Describe the challenges and management of older adults' hematologic malignancies
  4. Discuss personalization of therapy for older adults through geriatric assessments and supportive care interventions. 
  5. Summarize the challenges and barriers for development of clinical trials for older adults.

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.  

Designation of Credit

Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 20.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 20.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 20.00 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Nurses: This program provides 20.00 NCPD Hours.
