Welcome to Restless Legs Syndrome & Periodic Limb Movements of Sleep, the next module in the Current Topics in Sleep Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. This self-study internet-based enduring material provides a series of up-to-date modules on core topics and clinical cases in sleep medicine from leading experts in the Division of Sleep Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. CME/CE credit will be awarded upon completion of each module in the series. In this module, we will focus on the clinical features, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment approaches of restless leg and periodic limb movements.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity participants should be able to:

  1. Define restless legs syndrome and periodic limb movements.
  2. Discuss the symptoms, circadian pattern, and diagnosis of restless legs syndrome.
  3. Discuss the clinical features, epidemiology, and diagnosis of periodic limb movements.
  4. Describe the treatment approach for restless legs syndrome and periodic limb movements.

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.  

Designation of Credit
Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 0.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 0.75 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 0.75 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Nurses: This program provides 0.75 NCPD Hours.

ABS MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn 0.75 credits toward the CME and Self-Assessment requirements of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.
