Course Overview
Our instructor-led educational series demonstrates the implementation of an effective compliance program. Presentations promote general documentation principles of the medical record to ensure full compliance with all billing requirements, including providing accurate billing to both the patient and third-party payers for both Hospital and Professional Fees. The UPHS compliance program requires training for all billing providers and applicable billing personnel. These training sessions concentrate on an overview of the program, deficiencies identified by internal and/or external reviews, and current material changes within compliance regulations or the program.

Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Describe and produce properly documented medical records.
  2. Describe how to incorporate the need for clear documentation of medical necessity and reporting of diagnosis codes.
  3. Review the importance of an effective compliance program.
  4. Describe how to increase awareness of government initiatives to combat fraud, waste, and abuse.
  5. Discuss how to improve documentation and reporting of Evaluation and Management encounters, procedures, diagnostic services, and/or corresponding modifiers.

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
