Course Overview

The Electrophysiology (EP) lab may be an anxiety provoking assignment for those unfamiliar with the site. In this course, “Anesthesia in the Electrophysiology Lab,” join Dr. Roger Moore, a cardiac anesthesiologist (and past president of the ASA), for a 2-part video lesson that provides in-depth information, techniques, and insight helpful for you to care for these often very sick patients. The slide presentation on the fundamentals of the EP lab provide you and your team the introduction needed to become familiar with the types of procedures performed.

ATTENTION Nurse Anesthetists! In order to receive your AANA certificate, please enter your AANA ID# under My CE/CME, PROFILE, CREDENTIALS. You are also required to enter your AANA ID# on the evaluation before proceeding to download your certificate.

How to Receive Credit:

To receive your Certificate of Credit for participating in this CME/CE-certified educational curriculum, please follow these steps:

  • Read all the introductory material including faculty and disclosure information
  • Complete the pre-test
  • View the video lectures, slides, references and resources
  • Complete the post-test. You will have 3 attempts to earn at least 80% in order to proceed
  • Evaluate the activity using the brief survey. You must complete the post activity evaluation to download your certificate
  • You will be able to download your certificate after completing the post-activity survey

Objectives
  1. Explain the reasons behind the growth in NORA/EP cases
  2. Review key points in pre-operative evaluation and in the anesthetic preparation of the laboratory during the pre-operative period
  3. Discuss various options for anesthetic management and the rationale behind those choices
  4. Describe the common “Holding Room” procedures, such as NIPS, DFTs, and cardioversion
  5. Review the 3 groupings of Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) in the Electrophysiology Labs
  6. Explore different options of airway management, including High Frequency Jet Ventilation (HFJV)
  7. Review the management of post-ablation testing, such as the Isoproterenol Challenge
  8. Discuss care and management of the post-procedure patient

You will be required to complete the post-test after viewing this module. A score of at least 80% is required in order to pass the post-test. You will have 3 attempts to successfully complete the post-test. If you do not pass the post-test, no CE credits will be awarded. Once you have passed the post-test, you will be able to move forward and complete the Learner Assessment and Program Evaluation form. After the post-test, learner assessment and program evaluation are completed, you will be able to claim your credit.
