Course Overview
This session will highlight critical updates in liver transplantation including referral protocols, management of complications of cirrhosis in liver transplant patients, patient selection criteria in the setting of alcohol-associated liver disease, living donor liver transplantation, liver transplant for liver cancer and post-transplant immunosuppression.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Discuss appropriate clinical triggers for referral for liver transplant evaluation.
  2. Review clinical management strategies for complications of cirrhosis in liver transplant patients.
  3. Identify objective criteria used in pre-transplant setting to assist in selecting appropriate patients with alcohol-associated liver disease
  4. Discuss living donor liver transplantation selection criteria and optimal referral timing.
  5. Review indications for liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma.
  6. Identify critical post-transplant immunosuppression regimens

Designation of Credit
Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 1.5 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Nurses: This program provides 1.5 NCPD Hours.
