Foundations of Culinary Medicine is structured to educate medical providers about the importance of healthy food and nutrition, while giving them the skills and tools by which they can assist their patients (as well as themselves) lead healthier lives. The focus will be on non-infectious chronic diseases with particular attention to cultural competence and practical applications. Each 15-minute didactic lecture is followed by a cooking demonstration by Vetri Community Partnership chefs and nutritionists who will cook a meal using the principles discussed during the didactic lecture. Participants will have an opportunity cook along and interact with the chefs during the demonstration.

1. Identify cultural differences in food/nutrition
2. Discuss nutritional changes for diabetes, CAD, Hypertension, and IBS and learn how to apply them
3. Review food choice and preparation skills

The amount of Credits/NCPD/Contact Hours listed below are for each session.

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.  

Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses: This activity provides 1.5 NCPD hours
