Course Overview
The 5th North American Aortic Valve Repair Symposium (AVRS) is a two-day meeting designed to enhance learners’ understanding of aortic valve repair. Experts from North America, Europe, and around the world, will describe repair techniques, highlight outcomes, and identify areas for improvement. The program includes videos of surgical procedures, presentation of clinical data and outcomes, panel discussion with experts in the field, as well as hands-on and interactive sessions.

Target Audience
Specialties - EMERGENCY MEDICINE, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Adult Congenital Heart Disease, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Critical Care Medicine, INTERNAL MEDICINE - Interventional Cardiology, SURGERY - Surgical Critical Care, THORACIC AND CARDIAC SURGERY, THORACIC AND CARDIAC SURGERY - Congenital Cardiac Surgery
Professions - Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physicians, Registered Nurses, Students

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe aortic root anatomy and how it pertains to aortic valve repair
  2. Assess the suitability of the aortic root complex for aortic valve sparing techniques
  3. Compare and contrast the outcomes, limitations, and benefits of various valve sparing techniques
  4. Review techniques of bicuspid and tricuspid aortic leaflet repair
  5. Describe clinical and echocardiographic surveillance after aortic valve repair
  6. Review techniques for valve-sparing root reimplantation and remodeling in bicuspid and trileaflet valves
  7. Discuss the importance of, and techniques within, echocardiography to plan for aortic valve repair
  8. Evaluate the key echocardiographic parameters that are essential for post-repair assessment

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
