Course Overview
An AP provider or group of providers will present a clinical case and work with the Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) facilitator to delineate the clinical question arising from the case, search the literature to identify an answer, appraise the evidence identified, and apply the evidence to the case at hand. They will then present the case during a session along with the process they used to address the case, including a review of the evidence addressing the clinical questions informed by the case. EBM faculty will facilitate a discussion about question delineation, evidence acquisition, evidence review and appraisal, and the application and generalizing of the evidence to patient care across service lines.

Learning Objectives

  2. Reduce unnecessary variations in clinical practice by utilizing evidence based medicine.
  3. Identify ways evidence-based practices can be implemented into clinical care.

Designation of Credit
Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 1.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 1.00 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Nurses: This program provides 1.00 NCPD Hours.

ABS MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn 1.00 credits toward the CME and Self-Assessment requirements of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program.
