Course Overview

The Pennsylvania Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) and faculty experts from Penn Medicine are offering an education curriculum for prescribers on best practices for using the PDMP and on how to address substance use disorder with patients. 


Learning Objectives
  1. Incorporating the PDMP into Clinical Workflows
  2. Using the PDMP to Optimize Pain Management
  3. Approaches to Addressing Substance Use Disorder with Patients Identified by the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP)
  4. Effective Opioid Tapering Practices

Registration

This is a complimentary conference, however pre-registration is required. Registration includes a conference booklet, continental breakfast and a mid-morning break.

Parking
3600 Civic Center Blvd Parking Garage is open for public parking. This garage is accessible from Civic Center Blvd and is located at Civic Center Blvd and West Service Drive (next to the Colket Research Center). PCAM/Smilow TRC is about a 3-4 minute walk from the parking garage. Parking is $20-$25 per day and not covered by the conference.


Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Designation of Credit
The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Please note: in the state of Pennsylvania, nurses are able to use this activity towards the 30 hours of continuing education required for biannual nursing re-licensure.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) Requirements
All modules can be used to meet the Medical and/or Osteopathic Boards’ CME credit requirement of Patient Safety/Risk Management, and modules 3 – 7 can be used to meet the Act 124 of 2016 opioid education requirements. However, a provider cannot use the same module to meet both the Act 124 and Patient Safety/Risk Management requirements.

  • Act 124 Pain Management –Module 3
  • Act 124 Prescribing Practices for Opioids –Module 7
  • Act 124 Identification of Addiction –Module 6
  • Patient Safety/Risk Management –Modules 2, 3, 6 and 7

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (4.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance / Participation (4.00 hours)
