The 2026 Penn Kidney Transplant Symposium provides an overview kidney transplantation and instruction on the kidney transplant referral and evaluation processes as well as more advanced topics such as living donor kidney transplantation, socio-economic impacts on kidney transplantation and new electronic tools for kidney transplant patients.

This program is intended for nephrology nurses, renal social workers and dialysis unit technicians as well as general nephrologists and advanced practice providers. It will address the latest updates in kidney transplantation across the spectrum of care: from kidney transplant candidate referral to wait-listing, transplantation and post-transplant care. A combination of case presentations and lectures will be used to provide an academically sound and clinically relevant review.

Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Review the benefits and risks of kidney transplantation.
  2. Examine the living kidney donation evaluation process.
  3. Discuss the role of the NJ State Transplant Designee.
  4. Describe new electronic tools for kidney transplant candidates.
  5. Discuss the components of the kidney transplant referral and evaluation process .
  6. Explain the post-transplant shared-care model.
  7. Describe essential elements of a kidney transplant mentor program.
  8. Review the impact of socio-economic status on patients pre and post-kidney transplantation.
  9. Identify appropriate multi-listing strategies and understand the impact of current allocation policies.
  10. Describe the kidney transplant surgical process.


LIVE AND VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS
2026 Penn Kidney Transplant Symposium will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2026, by in-person and live-stream virtual attendance. The in-person and virtual presentations  will follow the scheduled agenda in real time (EDT).

In-person and Virtual Registration Fees
There is no fee to attend, but pre-registration is required.

All pre-registered, in-person attendees will receive access to the conference, program handout, continental breakfast, lunch and breaks. Registration also includes access to view the presentations online for one year. Please be sure to register in advance.

Parking: available Monday-Friday at the 3600 Civic Center Parking Garage. Parking is approximately $20 per day.

All pre-registered virtual attendees will receive an email that includes a link with instructions to sign-in and join the virtual conference 48 hours preceding the symposium, as well as the program handout as a downloadable PDF. Registration also includes access to view the presentations online for one year.

Designation of Credit:
Physicians:
Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 6.00 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Nurses: This program provides 6.00 NCPD Hours.

American Board for Transplant Certification: As a designated Approved Provider by the American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC), Penn Transplant Institute grants up to 6.0 Category 1 Continuing Education Points for Transplant Certification (CEPTC) for this offering. Approval TBD.

Association of Social Work Boards: As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Penn Medicine is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are Revised January 2025 the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 6.0 general continuing education credits.

NANT: The National Association of Nephrology Technicians/Technologists has approved this program for 6 continuing education contact hours.

*ABTC and Dialysis Center Technician attendees will receive their certificates directly from the respective organizations.
